Early 20th Century Revivals
The centennial celebration of the United States' founding (in 1876) created renewed interest in the European roots of early American colonization in French, Spanish, late Renaissance English, and Mediterranean forms. Soldiers and travelers returning from Europe between World War I (1914-1918) and World War II (1939-1945) brought back impressions of the architecture and way of life of European country and city life.
